"what's wrong with sitting
and watching the stars?" The scent of the fresh forest leaked its way into the rather simplistic Seijin classroom, dewdrops practically dripping through presence alone. It was a familiar scent to the former Seijin student who reminisced through the atmosphere as if it was only yesterday she was coming in here to receive training of her own, yet this time it was quite different. Indeed this time she was to serve as the watchful eye of the homeroom teacher, in a way she couldn't help but miss those days she spent with her classmates. The Ferry Hero would let her soles rest upon the top of her desk as she looked over the sea of sitting desks, all soon to hold a hero to be of their own. That said... she wasn't exactly cut out for the teaching business, in all honesty the whole reason she had applied was to escape the eyes of her parents yet another time, cowardly avoiding responsibility once again. It was complete luck that her alma mater even gave her a chance like this... but she also knew she was on quite a short leash due to the circumstances of her hire.
By now the students would be rising out of their beds and be making their way to her in no time now, probably walking past the cafeteria and grabbing something to tide over their hunger. They haven't quite begun any true heroic education programs yet but coming up were the physical examinations, a test of each students current capabilities both with and without their quirks. Sakiya had already made particular notes of just how they were going to be conducting such a test down the line, but for today it was merely an introductions course to make sure that all of the students got to know each other, and that they got to know her as well. She wasn't a particularly well known outside of the Iga hero fan community, and even then her appeal was niche. Being a naval hero it wasn't often she got to parade around or make public appearances, she found herself more often just floating around the ocean on patrols in case of stranded cases of attempted sea poaching. Yet there was no doubt that those with a refined knowledge of Seijin would know her as... a rather mediocre student of little note, alright there wasn't much she was incredible at outside of her own element.
She'd let out a drawn-out sigh as her eyes rolled to the wooden ceilings above, was she really going to make this work? All in all it was really just escape... but who knows she might actually find this sort of thing entertaining. Reaching down she'd retrieve a small white-board, not that long ago she had written her very own hero name on something just like it and here she was watching the next generation do it... no matter how much heroism's faith was waning she couldn't deny there was something appealing about that. Her amber eyes would roll over to the door waiting for the students to make their way into the classroom so that they could begin their introductions.

the things that you might like don't grow inside of me
Seijin did not agree with him.
A night owl by default, Arata was only half awake as he made his way down one of many wood paneled hallways that made Seijin distinct from other academies. It wasn't exactly a new problem. While elementary school hadn't been much issue so far as Arata was able to remember his waking hours had slowly shifted closer and closer to midnight as he'd entered and gone on through middle school, as luck would have it right around the time that such institutions began to become more strict with the expectation that their students would start acting more like adults. Mind, that perception was entirely relative from Arata's point of view, but it didn't at all come as a surprise that Seijin was just as strict if not more so when it came to student discipline.
So, here Arata was, clad in a uniform he did not find remotely comfortable and making his way to his assigned classroom for the first day of the semester.
Not that it was the uniform's tailoring that got to Arata. Same as it wasn't the bit about being forced to be awake so early in the day. The discomfort went quite a bit deeper than that, but to let his mind wander to the why of that would be to let it go down a deep and dark rabbit hole he'd feel even less comfortable exploring. So, as Arata approached the sliding door marked as his destination the teen would shove all of those thoughts down into as deep a pit as he could and reach to open it, pausing with a small blink of surprise as he noted that he was... somehow the first one there?
No, that wasn't entirely true. More accurately - and against common sense - it would've been more appropriate to say he was the first student. Towards the front of the classroom and having evidently been waiting with her gaze expectantly fixed on the door was a woman that Arata could only assume to be the class teacher.
"... morning." Arata said after a moment of pause, moving into the classroom and leaving the door open behind him for any other students on their way. They couldn't be far behind - while Arata was a few minutes early on account of being a quick eater he couldn't have imagined his morning-zombie self would've gotten there ahead of everyone. He was plenty awake now as opening a door and becoming immediately aware of someone watching you tended to have that effect, though. Rather than introduce himself or try to strike up conversation, though, Arata would move to take first dibs on a desk towards the back of the classroom.
There'd be time enough for that later. Judging from the teacher's appearance and apparent age Arata couldn't help but assume that this was likely her first year teaching, and a good number of those in the profession seemed to get a kick out of parading students in front of the class one at a time for introductions. All the more likely with Seijin's team-centric focus, at least from what his family had told him.

Yoko couldn’t enter the room.
Or well it should be more accurate to say she didn’t want to enter the room. The pink haired oni quietly rested her head in her hands, squiggles and pops dancing around her as she stood a little away from the door. Sweat ran down the back of her neck, the drifting morning sun quietly casting it’s rays through the windows and dancing across the floor. Yoko sighed, shaking her head before walking through the door...where their teacher was waiting...staring at them...and there was only one other person in the room… Her arms tensed up, a pit forming in the base of her stomach as she wandered away from the front, stopped, then looked back at her teacher.
”Good...Good morning…”
She found her way to the back of the room, staring down at her hands as she waited for the class to start. There was a word for people like her...the pure fear of the 3D world around her should have been evident enough to the young teenager that going here would be a bad idea. But staying home definitely wasn’t any better….comparatively, going to school was definitely better. Yoko contemplated texting Hibiki later; sneak out to an internet cafe on her next free day. Hopefully, she had an okay day at school too. LAIKA OF THQ

[attr="class","kazuyukitemptext"] He was not exceedingly late. However, he wasn’t too early. Just in between, that was good enough for him. He adjusted his shirt collar, feeling the whole attire was a bit stuffy compared to what he would have preferred. It was still hot. Regardless, it was simply time for class and that was really all on his mind. [break][break] Kazuyuki Shiratori, soon hero-to-be and current student at Seijin Academy. That was him, yes, it was. The hero title was something he still wasn’t quite used to, though he supposed that it was still a long ways away before he even was supposed to think about such things. [break][break] He did want to be a hero. That was why he was there. [break][break] Walking to homeroom, he noticed a few others had made it there before him. And of course, the teacher was already waiting at her desk. Kazuyuki gave a few polite nods, though didn’t directly address anyone. It seemed as if the back of the classroom had already been populated by a few students so that only left the front. He didn’t mind it, he really didn’t care much for where he would end up sitting. The front was good, he would be less distracted up there. [break][break] “Morning.” He said with a gentle tone, magenta eyes mostly trailed downward as he situated himself at his desk, in the front. He closed his eyes, letting himself breathe out a deep sigh of cold air. The cold did calm him, a comforting chill. [break][break] He sat straight, at attention. The poise of a good student. He could play the part. [break][break] [break] TL;DR ice boy sits in front like a nerd |

"what's wrong with sitting
and watching the stars?" It was true that Seijin had an earlier doctrine when it came to teaching, and the lack of a curfew made it clear that students were going to have to manage their own sleep schedules if they were to make it to class without a bedhead. There was no doubt that among the class there was a clear lack of energy, and with it enthusiasm not that she was any better, she'd just had several more years experience at keeping up appearances no matter how tired you were. Her eyes would run over the class looking them up and down, it was about what she expected.
She'd wait for the class to fill before standing up from her desk to address the class. There was a slight bead of sweat forming on the edge of her neck, clearly not quite used to doing full on public speaking, "Alright! Now that everyone is here we can go ahead and start our pop quiz!" Her hands would clap together before waving it off, "Kidding... kidding... that was a joke, I don't have a quiz prepared. That said we are within weeks of starting our first points of the heroics education program and with that there has to be a tight unity with you and your classmates. I'm not asking you guys to become friends overnight but having you guys know each others names is a fine start!"
The first step to Seijin's unity based heroics education, you have to get to know your classmates after all. That's what set Seijin apart... on top of their weapon training of course. She'd pull out a small whiteboard from beside herself, "I want you all to take turns drawing something onto this whiteboard that is relevant to you, and then you can give a few points about yourself! I'll go ahead and show an example." She'd make a rough sketch of a boat on top of water, "I'm the Ferry Hero, Sarasaki! I like fishing, food, and hanging out where people aren't." She'd place the whiteboard and marker onto the desk of the closest student, being that of Kazuyuki's. "After you finish you can hand it to another student of your choice and then they go! We'll stop once everyone has had a chance to introduce themselves."

[nospaces] [attr="class","kazuyukitempimage"] the cold never bothered me[break]anyway |
[attr="class","kazuyukitemptext"] He supposed teachers were the same everywhere and anywhere really. Though, what intrigued him more about their homeroom teacher was that… she seemed to be a bit casual. Maybe she was just as new to this whole teaching thing as he was to the whole hero thing. [break][break] Kazuyuki glanced back only once, looking to the other quiet students in the room. It was sufficient to say that the current mood in the room seemed rather quiet in general. Though it was a school that took their teachings from the core of ninjutsu, maybe that related to how ninja, in general, were supposed to silent and serious most of the time anyway. [break][break] He did raise his head at the mention of a pop quiz, only to be both relieved and surprised that the woman meant it as a joke. His feelings were really, mostly neutral about the matter. [break][break] It was introductions that were to come first. The usual set of ice-breakers given on the first day of formal classes. The teacher went first of course, and the pro hero gave her name. Sarasaki, the Ferry Hero. She liked fishing, food, and being alone. He quietly wondered if that was something appropriate that a teacher should say to their students. [break][break] Blinking once in a slightly startled reaction, the whiteboard was promptly slammed down on his desk. He did happen to be in the front after all. [break][break] Breathing out a cold breath of air, he knew that this was just the usual thing to do, but yet still, speaking up in front of a crowd made anyone nervous. Quickly, he scribbled out a picture of a snowflake on the whiteboard. Standing up, he held the board up so all could see his rather simple drawing. [break][break] “My name is Shiratori Kazuyuki. Um, my quirk, Flurry, allows me to generate freezing temperatures with my breath. I’m… more comfortable in the cold. I like the season of winter. And…” He paused, eyes drifting downward again. His hesitation come not out of nervousness, but instead, it seemed he still was deciding what he wanted to say. [break][break] “I want to be a pro-hero someday.” [break][break] A rather generic introduction really. What other reason would anyone want to be at a hero school other than to become a pro-hero? Kazuyuki bowed again, then erased his snowflake and passed it on to the next student. At least, if this would take up most of homeroom, then the rest of the period would pass by quickly enough. “I want to be a pro-hero someday.”
Yoko raised her gaze up as Kazuyuki spoke up, quietly running her fingers across the desk. Right. That’s what this school was for….The oni watched quietly as the board was passed around, different reasons and words coming up about each classmate. Yoko folded her hands, feeling the weight of her own decisions sitting upon her shoulders. Selfish is something that she was used to; the way words and lies would warp into something far more sinister. But even then, she knew she could never say something like that outloud in front of this many people. A lack of tact, some sort of punishment for choosing such an arbitrary reason for becoming a hero…
Her fingers would fiddle with the board as it came up to her desk, the pictures of pure ideals staring right back at her. Twisted, terrible, she must have paused for too long before when she finally looked back up, everyone was looking at her...or at least it felt like it. ”Yoko...Cuthbert. My quirk is word fly and it lets me create speech bubbles...and um...mimic some noises I can hear. I like ninjas a lot...and puzzle games.” Other phrases came up in her mind; the strange twisted way her mind would wander to different topics that had some bare resemblances. “My aunt is a hero.” “My friend decided to become a hero, so I wanted to become one to work with her.” “My family isn’t all that great, so I ran away.”
She couldn’t say that.
Not when everyone seemed so much more pure and focused on their feelings.
”I hope we can get along...unless that’s a bother then it’s okay if we don’t….” With that she passed the whiteboard down the line, going back to staring down at her hands as the words would fill the room. Heroism was a teamwork centric line of work….what made her think she could do something like that? People were difficult. Far more difficult then the oni knew how to deal with….

Post by Iwatori Arata on Aug 25, 2020 20:38:21 GMT -5
the things that you might like don't grow inside of me
If nothing else the next several minutes would give Arata the opportunity to wake the rest of the way up, the early morning grogginess leaving his body. Not that it would be readily apparent to anyone around him as it was replaced instead by something that looked quite similar - a general sense of apathy as Arata found himself having to physically resist the urge to lean forward or slump over the desk until class began. Whether or not it was a better feeling than the sense of nervousness and anxiety he was getting from the other students slowly beginning to fill up the room was a question entirely open to debate. On the one hand that was a kind of stress that Arata was very happy to do without... but on the other it implied that they had motivation he didn't, and despite how long his family's history with the school went back it just wasn't something Arata could really make himself care about.
He wasn't entirely sure what he wanted to do with his life yet, true, and an argument could be made that Seijin would prepare him for whatever he chose to do. But graduating would mean likely getting sucked into the family tradition that followed, and part of Arata found himself prickling at having that decision made for him.
And then everyone was there, or at least enough that class could start as the teacher began speaking. The initial announcement of a pop quiz sent murmurs of surprise through the room, although that was quickly offset as a joke before she started getting into actual course focus and introductions. The mention of a teamwork focus almost immediately put a damper on his already fairly unenthused mood. Were this a regular high school or the like? Arata would've been fine. But hero courses were different, with all cards on the table - and that included active and relatively free uses of one's Quirks and challenges designed with that in mind. Arata was perfectly content with what he was physically capable of but in a Quirk focused environment he was going to be the weak link in any team based challenge - and the more you brought a group of people down with your suck the more they tended to resent you for it.
With that in mind the year was already off to a good start.
Her name, though, was not one that Arata recognized off the top of his head, although it wasn't the one he cared about - her hero name, a stage name. Not the real one or the actual person they'd be speaking to behind the mask or performance. Under normal circumstances he would've had nothing but questions in a setting of casual conversation, but this wasn't the time or place. Not with what followed as Sarasaki pulled out a marker and whiteboard that was to begin making its way around the room. The first student she passed it to was the boy sitting immediately in front of her who would introduce himself as one Shiratori Kazuyuki, his Quirk being Flurry. What followed after that was fairly stock affair in the sense that he was a normal kid, same as anyone else there. As was his closing statement - that he wanted to be a pro hero.
To anyone else in the room those words may have sounded obvious. It was natural to assume that everyone who was there wanted to be there, especially with the entrance exams most hero schools made mandatory. Arata, though, wasn't going to knock it. Right off the bat that gave Shiratori more reason for being there than he had, and presumably the motivation to make it work.
Many of the students that followed were much the same and of similar motivations. Some were, to an extent, things that Arata could even empathize with. "My family members are heroes". "I have a goal". "I want to help people". A lot of ideals and good ideas, although the more and more people parroted the line or motivations held within the more he couldn't help but wonder how many were simply going with what seemed like the right thing to say or sidestepping the mistake of voicing more selfish endgames. Plenty of people entered the industry drawn by promises of wealth, fame and glory, and statistically speaking Arata didn't believe for an instant that not one of his fellow classmates harbored such motivations.
With almost twenty people to go through and given the path the whiteboard was taking Arata couldn't help but place an elbow on his desk, leaning forward to rest with his cheek propped up against his knuckles - not that he realized he was doing so until at least a couple of minutes after the fact, though. Given where his seat was in one of the back corners of the room he was likely going to be dead last on introductions, although that brought his attention to the next student that stood out.
In many ways she wasn't unlike the other students and the sense of anxiety that seemed to permeate the room all but exuded off of her as well - although something about it felt a bit more distracted than the others. As she started to introduce herself, though, Arata couldn't help but immediately take note of her name. It was an odd mix of both a Japanese given name but a foreign surname, and unlike many of the other students in the room she'd introduced herself with her given name first. Had she been raised overseas? With the small horns on her head that came straight out of Japanese myth and folklore the irony wasn't lost on Arata, and even before Cuthbert came to her Quirk there were a dozen questions swimming around in Arata's head - about the same as usual, really. Before too long, though, her introductions were over and the whiteboard had made its way through another several students before finally arriving to him.
Eyeing the small white rectangle of plastic with well hidden annoyance as it was passed onto his desk, Arata bit the bullet and reached for the marker to quickly scribble something onto the board before standing up - a picture of a very poorly drawn handheld gaming system scrawled across it for lack of anything else that Arata felt like sharing having come to mind.
"My name's Iwatori Arata. My Quirk is Reflection. It stops things. I like cooking, gaming and reading. Here's hoping we get along." Arata said, staying as succinct as possible as he stayed on point and kept his voice clear and audible before sitting down and handing the board to the student ahead of him to be passed back to the front of the room. With any luck that'd keep things simple. All anyone seemed to care about these days were hero names, and while his relatives weren't even remotely well known outside of the school's teachers and other alumni those were still expectations Arata could very well do without.

It was hard to believe it, but she was actually here. The time between her acceptance into the school and the first actual day of classes felt like an eternity, but now that the day was finally here, she was incredibly nervous. For most of the class thus far, she'd just been sitting quietly and not bringing any attention to herself. At least for now. Once the class officially started, she started to calm down a little. As such, she watched quietly as the teacher officially began the class, and had everyone start by introducing themselves. As she listened to everyone else's introductions, she mentally took notes.
Kazuyuki's rather generic introduction caused her to raise an eyebrow. Then again, she'd heard stories of people going to one of the various Heroing schools with no intention of becoming a hero. She recalled overhearing one poor student complaining that they were only there because their parents forced them to go. Rather sad, in her opinion. Then came Yoko. She was...kinda cute, if Setsuna was being honest, though she seemed a bit...nervous and uncomfortable, maybe? Her Quirk sounded interesting, though. Certainly one of the more unique sounding ones she'd heard of, at least. Last was Iwatori, who was rather terse and quick-to-the-point with his.
Aside from also having a very interesting-sounding quirk, he admittedly didn't leave much of an impression, but she could, if nothing else, appreciate wanting to get this over with quickly. Eventually, before she realized it the whiteboard came to her. She did a small double-take when she realized that it was indeed at her desk, causing her to stand up a little awkward as her previous nerves returned. However, she got over them quickly enough to scribble a crude drawing of a katana onto the whiteboard and begin her own intro.
"M-my name is Setsuna Hanamori...and...well, I guess you could say I'm a huge samurai fan. My Quirk is called Xylokinesis, and it allows me to change the shape and physical properties of anything that's been carved out of wood. My goal is to become a just and righteous hero who can stand up for those who are unable to defend themselves...not just from criminals who attack the city, but from the corruption that comes from within it as well. E-either way, I'm eagerly looking forward to the lessons we'll be learning here, and I hope we can get to know each other well as time goes on."
After erasing her sketch, she passes the whiteboard along and lets out a sigh. Was that okay? It came out a bit wordier than she meant to it. Hopefully, no one would think she was too weird.

"what's wrong with sitting
and watching the stars?" Of all the brats she had to start with it was more than obvious that she would end up picking the shy one, rather her than another student at least right? His quirk was quite interesting... though of course she already had that information squared up and neat in a little folder she had uh... definitely read! There was no doubt that his heart was in the right place and it was relatively inoffensive. Maybe he'd benefit the most from something where he'd get a head start on getting to know everyone, but of course Sakiya was just hoping social pressure would push him to speak up to his classmates if he at least knew their names first. Kazuyuki noted who to pick for her snowball team. "Thank you very much Kazuyuki, welcome! We have a pretty snow season down here I'm sure you'll like it at the academy."
If the first kid person was a little shy than this girl coming up could be described as anxious, whether that was from her family situation or from bullying Sakiya hardly could tell the difference. She knew bits and pieces about her students she had skimmed through, Yoko's aunt ran a circus near Musutafu that was fairly popular with showmen and about no one else. She had at least heard the girl's father was a genuinely nice person. The rushed ending was sure to draw a few eyes but the Ferry Hero wasn't about to fault her for it, people genuinely sucked most of the time... even more high school students, of course she wasn't in the line of work to be complaining about something like that! "Ninjas huh? Well you definitely came to the right place if you're looking for such memories, I'm actually the descendent of a ninja myself~!" If a hero's nose could grow in size, hers would no doubt be the size of a ladder.
After a few more students the whiteboard would find itself onto a more serious looking student than many of the other classmates, he made his points quick and precise. It was simple and didn't give too much away, that said those were the ones that often held the most stories underneath... maybe he wasn't confident in his reasons for being here. Whatever the case she wasn't about to push anyone to speak further about their hobbies, he seemed to have very intrinsic hobbies not that she was much different growing up. Books of ninjas and arcades weren't much outside of her past delinquent days nearing high school. She hoped to get to hear more about him when he grew more comfortable.
Finally it ended on a girl who didn't physically stand out compared to the other students, but what she lacked on the outside she clearly made up for in her more wordier introduction. It was the distinction of a just hero that stood out to Sarasaki but she wasn't one to be able to pull meaning out of something like that, whatever the case it seemed that the young lass had clear reasons for wanting to be a hero and a firm passion to meet her fellow classmates... at least one of them was about to bring this classroom together! Cause only the gods knew Sakiya was going to have to try hard to get this lot in cohesive shape.
When the whiteboard finally made its way back to her she'd give it a gentle tap before placing it down gently onto her desk. Having had to sit still far longer than she had hoped for, Sakiya would no doubt find herself standing up from her desk and giving a loud stretch before strutting across the front of the room in a lecture manner, "With our introductions out of the way I all hope you get to know each other better! I'm certain you all know your way well around the campus around this point so there will be little need for explanation there." The newly-indocrtrainted teacher would scratch at the back of her head with a ruler in thought, this speaking thing was way harder than it looked... having to figure out things for her students to do, she grew relieved they didn't give her the Heroic Education course like she had come here hoping for.
With a loud sigh her boredom would be more than obvious before a flash of realization crossed her face, "Well next week I'm quite certain you'll all be excited to hear that you will be partaking in your physical assessments! These will be lessons that will be used to test the limits of your quirk as well as your own physical capabilities, being a hero isn't just about your quirk after all, it takes a strong body and mind!" She'd grin to herself, clearly already excited about the prospect of getting out of the classroom, "I'm sure you all have some questions though, about classes, about the school, or maybe about me! Maybe that'll help us all to get to know each other." The platform was open for anyone with a question to speak it now, though Sarasaki was no doubt stalling for that bell to kick the classroom into gear.

[nospaces] [attr="class","kazuyukitempimage"] the cold never bothered me[break]anyway |
[attr="class","kazuyukitemptext"] Everyone else made their introductions too. In a way, he was glad to have gone first to get such things out of the way. He went to adjusting his shirt collar once more, feeling more and more claustrophobic as time went on. It wasn’t that he didn’t do very good in crowded rooms with lots of people, it was just that, there was something about these ice-breakers that always felt so terribly awkward. [break][break] He nodded politely to the teacher when she mentioned the winter season. [break][break] Most people probably didn’t think so much about it. Generic introductions, some shy hesitations, a few who actually seemed confident in what they were saying. Things that most people would forget in the time they all would be spending with each other. They would all be spending some amount of time with each other right? [break][break] Without realizing it, most of the class had already gone. He missed some introductions, a certain pink-haired girl and then well, others he couldn’t really put a name to a face to. He kept his head down, trying not to draw too much attention to his own inattentiveness. [break][break] His own introduction had been generic enough, no need to really be… memorable. [break][break] And just like that, introductions came to an end. Sarasaki left the rest of the period open to questions and the like. Kazuyuki had nothing really to add. Even if he had questions about the school itself, he wasn’t sure if he had the wits to ask it in front of everyone else. Was he curious about the teacher herself? Probably, but nothing immediately came to mind about what he wanted to know. [break][break] Instead, he looked down at his desk, trying not to make any more eye contact than necessary. [break][break] Maybe then, homeroom could finish up earlier. [break][break] [break] TL;DR kazuyuki is a shy bean |

| This isn't a dream.
If we all fall because we let ourselves be caught up in it,
I would never forgive myself |
Yoko regretted coming to Seijin. Almost instantly as the class began, all she could do was feel this innate sense of dread as the classroom filled with words within the room. She wanted to crawl into a hole and disappear- never to be seen again. But that wouldn’t have solved anything. No, all of her problems would still be there, haunting her, despite any sort of hope of escape. The one thing, she couldn’t possibly avoid...Yoko sighed, resting her head against her desk as she let the rest of the class continue forward. She couldn’t possibly ask anything. Not about if Sarasaki was actually a ninja. Not if there is anything in particular they would be learning.
Especially not if they could change the uniforms or if they were allowed to modify things at all.
And of course, not anything involving the class schedule.
Some people truly weren’t made for this sort of interaction in the end. The oni counted the notable classmates in her head. The familiar figures she has seen before, the ones that were far for well spoken. If all else fails, she could probably talk to one of them and perhaps they had any sort of question to ask their homeroom teacher. LAIKA OF THQ
